Get to Know the Gerana Initiative

Landscapes Reimagined. Business Reinvented.

The Gerana Initiative convenes companies to act together where they source - linking supply network decisions to real landscape outcomes for nature, climate and livelihoods.

Across sectors, businesses increasingly recognise that business resilience depends on landscape resilience. Water systems, soils, forests and ecosystems underpin the production landscapes that global supply networks rely on.

Yet acting at landscape scale is complex, requiring collaboration across businesses, land stewards, communities, governments and finance — often across sectors and areas of practice that do not normally work together.

Gerana exists to help make this possible.

Our work follows three steps to impact:

  1. Community Learning - building shared understanding through research, dialogues, peer exchange and in-person gatherings.
  2. Discovery Labs - testing practical pathways for collective landscape action in real sourcing regions.
  3. Landscape Partnerships - replicating and growing what works through durable collaborations and blended finance.

At the heart of this work sits the Gerana Commons - connecting businesses, land stewards and practitioners exploring how collective action in sourcing landscapes can strengthen both landscape resilience and supply resilience.

In 2026 the Commons will host the launch of the Market Opportunity Scoping (MOS) research and a series of Gerana Dialogues bringing diverse perspectives together to explore how landscape collaboration can move from ambition to durable systems of action.
