Oxfam briefing on Women’s Work in Asia

Millions of women working in Asia – which hosts many of the world’s garment manufacturing centres – are underpaid and undervalued, with around three-quarters working on a precarious basis, according to research by Oxfam.

Garment workers in Myanmar are typical of the situation endured by many – facing disempowerment caused by lack of workers’ rights, forced overtime and individual debt due to low pay. The workers were surveyed by Oxfam for its 2016 briefing report Underpaid and Undervalued.
