With its global supply chains, fashion is an industry that is susceptible to modern slavery – and under increasing pressure from legislators to take steps to tackle it.

Over recent years, through the campaigning and cataloguing work of various organisations, the issue of modern slavery – and its links to the fashion industry – has come out of the shadows.

What is modern slavery?

According to Anti-Slavery International, someone is in slavery or forced labour if they are:

  • forced to work – through mental or physical threat;
  • owned or controlled by an ‘employer’, usually through mental or physical abuse or the threat of abuse;
